Dei Dogi - Venezia

History

Boscolo Dei Dogi. In the heart of history, near the Lagoon.

The Boscolo Hotel Dei Dogi is housed in Palazzo Rizzo Patarol, a beautiful 17th century Venetian town house built by the Patarol family and then inherited by the aristocratic Rizzos, whose line became extinct in 1833. In its long history before becoming a luxury hotel, the mansion also housed a monastery and then the Embassies of France and Savoy.
The building is a typical 18th century "Cà veneziana", a Venetian aristocratic town house which had both residential and representative functions and also served as a warehouse for the wealthy Venetian merchants. On the ground floor there is a large high-ceiling main room, running the entire length of the building, which is then replicated on the upper stories: multicoloured marbles, fine Venetian stuccowork and two marvellous chandeliers, masterpieces of the master glassmakers of Murano. The atmosphere of opulence, dating to the late 19th century, is further enhanced by the beautifully crafted wall decorations and brocade upholstery, as well as the warm and welcoming inlaid wood floors of the rooms. These and other original features, which have been carefully restored or reproduced, can still be admired today in the lobby of the Hotel Boscolo Dei Dogi. When the mansion was built, the Madonna dell'Orto area was the only part of Venice with cultivated fields; this is why Palazzo Rizzi Patrarol can boast such a large garden, an extremely rare feature in this city. It is, in fact, the only Venice hotel with a private park of over 3,000 square metres.
Surrounded by fascinating calli, the Venetian streets, and the lagoon, the park is a superb example of romantic garden in the ""English style", which appeared in the 19th century and quickly spread throughout the country, replacing the outdated formal geometry of the previous "Italian style" gardens. Winding paths make their way through the well-tended slightly hilly garden, passing by «trompe-l'oeil» and faux paint effects, grottoes, fake ruins and follies and fountains spouting crystal-clear water, all features that contribute to creating truly quiet, peaceful and marvellous surroundings. A statue of the Virgin Mary has been placed in the middle of a rockery, adorned with fountains and shrubs, and the old icehouse, which forms an artificial hill, is used today as a cool-storage unit food and beverages.
The luxury Hotel Boscolo Dei Dogi offers its guests the unique opportunity of a peaceful stroll, both inside and outside the hotel, a journey through time and a sublime pleasure for the soul and the eyes.
